Girls Incorporated® of Greater Los Angeles is a program of Volunteers of America of
Greater Los Angeles, provides girls with tools to make the best choices in life, assert their rights,
and become empowered around academic, economic, and social issues.
Outreach and Programming
Annually, Girls Inc. serves over 17,000 girls
ages 6-18+ through 15 direct services sites in schools, housing developments,
and community centers, and through program partnerships in the Greater Los Angeles area. This research-based curricula focuses
on health, pregnancy prevention, economic literacy, philanthropy, entrepreneurial,
media literacy and math/science skill enhancement.
Target Audience
Our mission is to inspire all girls to reach
their highest potential regardless of their economic status, social, cultural
or religious background. Our girls are typically from single parent households
and the overwhelming majority fall economically below the poverty level.
Due in part to the financial constraints on the part of girls and their
families and caregivers, Girls Inc. strives to make participation as user-friendly
as possible. (see list of schools below)
Goals and Objectives
Programs target skill development and informational needs of different age groups, focusing on critical thinking, decision-making, communication, pressure resistance, accurate information, the support of caring adults and examination of life options.
Support
The primary challenge we are faced
with is trying to meet the demands for our programs. We receive
ongoing requests from parents, community leaders, schools and girls.
Our ability to expand into many new areas is hindered by limited monetary
and staff resources. There are several opportunities to sponsor Girls Inc. programs in existing sites or in your local community. Sponsorship Opportunity
Girls Inc. Online - extended Girls Inc. reasurch-based programming to girls everywhere in a safe, membership-based web community where members share ans connect on message boards, meet inspiring women, and participate in fun activities. For more information contact us 213-251-7658
